Electric mixers come in two basic styles and are important appliances for a number of common baking tasks. Countertop mixers are powerful devices that combine and blend thick mixtures that will ultimately bake in the oven. They contain multiple attachments that mix and blend slowly to form thick or creamy consistencies. Portable, hand held mixers are used to mix products that are more of a liquid consistency, usually containing milk, eggs, butter, cream, etc. Handheld, portable mixers are easy to use and store. Their retractable attachments can be placed in the dishwasher for easy cleanups. Both these mixer types come in a variety of colors, motor speeds and styles.
